Herman Shock – TCNA’s Art Tile Person of the Year 2010

Tile Council of North America (TCNA) posthumously honored Mr. Herman Schock as the TCNA Art Tile Person of the Year at Coverings 2010 in Orlando, FL.

After getting his start in the tile industry as an apprentice, Mr. Schock worked as a contractor in the Los Angeles area from the 1960’s until he retired in 1992. He was an active member of the Associated Tile Contractors of Southern California (ATC of So. Cal.) and served on the Tile Setters Apprenticeship Committee, Local 18 from 1982 until 1992. He was well-known as a master craftsman who took great pride in his work and was always willing to share his knowledge and expertise with apprentices.

Porcelain Tile Certification Update – 2010

The Porcelain Tile Certification Agency (PTCA) is pleased to announce the growing number of participants in its certification program.

Launched in 2008 by Tile Council of North America (TCNA) and the Ceramic Tile Distributors Association (CTDA), this program directly benefits manufacturers, distributors, and end-users, which are all impacted by the misrepresentation of non-porcelain tile as porcelain. With 101 product lines qualifying for certification in 2009 (an increase of 4.1% over 2008), there is clearly a high-demand for this service.

TCA Handbook Conference

Tile Council of North America is pleased to announce the TCA Handbook Committee will discuss and vote on proposed Handbook changes June 22-23, 2010 at a meeting hosted by Georgia-Pacific Corporation in Atlanta, GA.

For the first time, natural stone installation details will be included in the TCA Handbook.

TCNA Mexico to Host 2010 ISO TC 189 Meeting

The 2010 International Organization for Standardization (ISO) meeting on ceramic tile and installation materials standards will be held August 30 – September 2 in Mexico City. This meeting will be hosted by TCNA – Mexico and, for the first time, will be held in Mexico.

TCNA Green Initiative – Full Speed Ahead

As concerns for sustainability and the environment approach an all-time high, there is no shortage of TCNA and TCNA member involvement in the green building community. From its “Tile – The Natural Choice” campaign to its involvement in green building standards committees, to its environmental product standardization efforts, the TCNA Green Initiative is in full swing.

TCNA Joins Total Solutions Plus

The Tile Council of North America (TCNA) is pleased to announce that it will partner with the National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA) and the Ceramic Tile Distributors Association (CTDA) to host Total Solutions Plus.
