The 2010 International Organization for Standardization (ISO) meeting on ceramic tile and installation materials standards will be held August 30 – September 2 in Mexico City. This meeting will be hosted by TCNA – Mexico and, for the first time, will be held in Mexico.
One of the major agenda items is the balloting of ISO 13006 revisions, the first time this standard has ever been revised. The proposed changes to 13006 include:
- Addition of porcelain and rectified tile definitions
- Requirement for manufacturers to indicate post-firing surface applications
- Inclusion of “back-feet” diagrams and design criteria
- New sizing requirements for pressed tile that sufficiently address large format tile
Additional items that will be discussed include
- Relationship between shear and tensile adhesive criteria for installation materials (test properties for tile substrates and adhesives)
- Formation of a new working group to write thin tile specifications
- Proposal to form a new working group to create international backerboard standards
Tile Council of North America serves as the U.S. representative on the ISO Committee for ceramic tile standards and through the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) holds the secretariat position. For more information about this meeting, contact Tile Council at 864-646-8453.
