As one of the nation’s leading ceramic tile and installation materials testing facilities, the Tile Council of North America, Inc. (TCNA) offers confidential product and performance testing conducted in a state-of-the-art laboratory. Test results are provided in a confidential report to each customer. Our staff has extensive experience in all phases of ceramic tile, stone, and installation materials testing. The lab also provides custom testing services.

The TCNA Laboratory offers a wide range of tests for tiles, dimension stone, and installation materials per ASTM, ANSI, and ISO standards. Larger-scale testing and research can be conducted in our facility and via partnerships with the National Brick Research Center and Clemson University.

Porcelain Certification Program

Porcelain tile is defined by ANSI A137.1 as an impervious tile with a water absorption of 0.5% or less as measured by the ASTM C373 test method. There are, however, many instances in which tile not meeting this standard is advertised and sold as porcelain tile.

Marketplace confusion, installation problems and even liability concerns can result when non-porcelain tile is misrepresented in the marketplace.
