As one of its primary functions, Tile Council of North America (TCNA) takes a leadership role in the development of U.S. and international standards. Here are just some of TCNA’s recent efforts in standards development for the tile industry:
As chairman of the ASTM C21 committee, TCNA staff oversaw the revision or re-approval of ten ASTM ceramic tile standards.
Through TCNA staff’s role as ISO secretariat, and the participation of a TCNA member as ISO chairman, TCNA oversaw the systematic review of two existing ISO standards and the vote on two drafted ISO standards. Also, ten committee drafts are in progress.
As secretariat of ANSI, TCNA staff oversaw the revision of five national standards, with three more currently under review.
In its role as secretariat to the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO, six standards were reviewed or balloted.
In addition, TCNA has been working on several issues of immediate importance to the tile industry: development and research regarding coefficient of friction and slip/fall testing, evaluation of visible abrasion resistance for porcelain tile, the creation of a glass tile standard, and drafting a specification for sound isolation membranes.
